Motivation Monday: Regimen

I hope you've had your Happy Monday smile on good people! (Cue forced smiles)

Well. This one is the kicker for me. Growing up as an athlete, performer, and in Film, my schedule was always perfectly mapped out, and extremely full. Im pretty sure my mother's favorite past time together was driving from activity to activity, practice to practice, set to set, show to show, field to field. The same went for college, as we know the full 24 hour schedule that comes with. Adult life however... In a field where your schedule can change drastically in a matter of minutes, maintaining a specific regimen can be a challenge. Im pretty sure it can be a challenge for anyone in any field, in fact.

Developing a Life regimen might be natural for some, a blink-of-an-eye, wake-up-and-go type of thing. However, for the rest of us it takes planning, focus, and DISCIPLINE. Now that we have spent the last week or so re-evaluating our visions for the year, and finding alignment with our goals, we can get this party started. Here are a few steps that I am taking to create a new life regimen going into the summer:

  1. List that thang! Take a moment, close your eyes, breathe (don't stress), now make a list of all of the things you'd like to get done each day. FYI this might get lengthy. (Example: Prayer, Run, Morning Face/Body Regimen, Night Face/Body Regimen, Emails, Work, Reading, Current Events, Research, Journal, etc.)

  2. Prioritize. Prioritizing can be a b-otch, when it comes down to it, however its a necessity for a productive and fruitful life, so we must do it! Evaluate your list, and create an order for which these items can be realistically carried out. Are some of your items more appropriate for weekly or every-other-day achievement? If so, put them to the side for scheduling. 

  3. Time. As your prioritize your items, you must decide who gets how much time and why. For those of you who have specific work schedules, this might be more straight forward, however you have a smaller window to work with. Choose wisely. For those of you who have to move on the drop of a dime like me, create flexibility within this.

  4. Be Realistic. You know you. Be honest and realistic with yourself through this process, so that you can set yourself up for success. 

  5. Challenge Yourself. Now, just because you know that prior to creating this regimen you "realistically" wouldn't do something, does not mean that you opt out of it. The purpose of developing this is to lead a better and more progressive life! Just like with your daily crunches... You have to learn to love the burn!

  6. Meditiate. Starting a new regimen doesn't happen just because you wrote it down. Take a moment to Pray or Meditate over everything you've decided on. When I say a moment, I mean at the very least 10-15 minutes. Wrap your mind fully around it, so that tomorrow you can Get In The Game. 

  7. Hold Yourself Accountable. Or if youre like me and need a back up, ask someone to be your accountability buddy. Give yourself visual reminders. Utilize your calendar or productivity apps. If you're a physical person like me, put a checkmark in your planner daily for your completed items. 

Im excited about this new beginning for all of us! It takes around 21 days to create a habit, if you're dedicated. By the end of this month, we should all be leading happier, healthier, and more productive lives! On your mark, get set, GO!
